Write Sounds

We have brought together a network of 10 schools to take part in Write Sounds. Collectively we have identified a need to boost attainment in creative writing and are developing an innovative approach with children’s literacy expert Pie Corbett and The Beat Goes On supported by Artswork, the South East Bridge organisation.

This network of teachers are using body percussion, rap and spoken word to increase skills, confidence and attainment in literacy. Additionally, secondary schools involved will bring experience and expertise to support transition and to raise attainment, building stronger links between teachers working at KS2 and KS3 through direct participation in this project.

Participating schools are:

  • Cardinal Newman Catholic School, Brighton & Hove
  • Carden Primary School, Brighton & Hove
  • Coldean Primary School, Brighton & Hove
  • Coombe Road Primary School, Brighton & Hove
  • Cottesmore St Mary’s RC Primary School, Brighton & Hove
  • Denton Community Primary School, Newhaven
  • Harbour Primary School, Newhaven
  • Varndean School, Brighton & Hove
  • Westdene Primary School, Brighton & Hove
  • Woodingdean Primary School, Brighton & Hove

As part of Write Sounds, these schools are also delivering Arts Award and working towards achieving their Artsmark.
