Artists Jo Coles and Sharon Mee have been working with children to deliver an online art club during the lockdown. We are now pleased to share their creations through our online gallery.
ViewOur regular programme of activity co-developed with Virtual School for children in care, or previously in care and their siblings. Offered in school holidays in April, August and October and February for children aged 6-14 this club provides unique and engaging visual art activities and a highly nurturing environment that supports children to develop skills, build confidence and make social connections.
Holiday Art Club is designed with wellbeing at the heart of all activities. Our aim is to support children with challenges around settling into different home settings, building relationships with new siblings, and developing trust and a sense of security. Children in care can find the school structure hard to fit into and some struggle to moderate behaviour or maintain focus. For families, holidays can be a difficult time as carers search for opportunities to occupy and inspire all their children with limited resources to support them.
At Holiday Art Club children are encouraged to explore their creativity through carefully structured activities with a high degree of autonomy for personalisation and expression. Over a series of 7 different themed activities they create a body of work that is shared with friends and family on the final afternoon. Time for food and conversation are embedded to support social development, play and formation of new friendships. Holiday Art Club is a supported safe space where children can explore complex family situations and their feelings with peers.
