Breakthrough Blog: Week 2 with Future Creators

After a jammed packed first week lined with excitement and anticipation within our new job roles, we headed back to into office for our second week. Meetings had, ideas shared, introductions taken place. Zac and I moved into our second week feeling incredibly more settled.

(To find out about our experience of our first week check out our previous blog post) link here: Breakthrough Blog: Week 1 with Future Creators | Future Creators

Building on from last week, this week we continued to have various meetings, inductions and had some super helpful discussions regarding splitting our role up and sorting out timetabling. Our to-do lists are starting to grow.

This week we both attended our first event at the Youth Employment Hub in Brighton, where we shared information about our upcoming training event in collaboration with Brighton Dome. The training event is for young people aged from 18-25 and is based around an upcoming VR-experience ‘Repetitive Beats’ showing at Brighton Dome as part of its National Tour. The installation immerses participants within a story exploring themes of rave culture in 1989, amplified by a soundtrack of Acid House music. Not only will young people have the opportunity to run through the hour–long experience, which is sold out, but they will also partake in work experience and training at the Dome in various areas. This includes Front of House training and the ability to shadow shifts in various behind-the-scenes roles. After completing the VR experience participants will also have the opportunity to attend a talk by the creator Darren Emmerson and ask any questions they have about his experiences and the creative process.

It was amazing to see the reactions of young people during our drop-in session, we have had a lot of positive feedback on how helpful and valuable the work experience would be for them to build their understanding of different roles that are out there and add to their CV to help when moving on to find opportunities in the future. It was so lovely to talk to young people with various backgrounds/interests, directly hear about their experiences and emphasise with the difficulties they are having with accessing the creative industry. With one of our key values surrounding our work being youth-led and empowering youth voice in discussions, we are very keen to find out directly from the young people how else we can aid them into their journeys into working/ finding out about the creative sector.

As well as this event, we had our weekly meeting at Create Newhaven again and touched base with Talent Accelerator, our partner organisation working on our Coastal Catalyst project with us. More ideas have been shared and it is super exciting to hear about what is happening over there and the opportunities that young people will soon have access to.

All in all, another week of finding out more about what our roles will look like, meeting new friendly faces and having more creative conversations.
